Our Commitment

At Li-Cycle, we’re committed to doing our part to create a safer, cleaner, and healthier world.

ESG leadership is core to who Li-Cycle is across all teams and disciplines. We strive to create a truly closed-loop lithium-ion battery supply chain to support the global transition to electrification, while addressing the related global challenges. Our unparalleled resource recovery rates uphold the highest standards in safety and environmental sustainability, providing a cleaner, more ethical method of producing critical finite battery materials than the mining industry. These benefits are supported by our responsible business practices that are organized into three pillars: environmental, social and governance.

Environmental Commitment

Environmental Commitment

The Environmental pillar focuses on implementing technologies and processes that have minimal impact on the environment. Through pollution prevention measures, resource recovery activities, and other environmental best practices, Li-Cycle:

  • Diverts lithium-ion batteries from landfill to sustainable resource recovery
  • Maintains zero waste diversion to landfill
  • Produces no wastewater from our processes
  • Creates no direct emissions and creates substantial net environmental benefits via indirect greenhouse gas emissions reduction
  • Collaborates across the supply chain to implement the highest environmental standards
  • Certifies facilities under International Standards Organization (“ISO”) 9001 quality standard, ISO 14001 environment standard and Responsible Recycling (“R2”) standards

Governance Commitment

The Governance pillar focuses on integrating strong governance and enterprise risk management oversight across all aspects of our business and committing to ethical business conduct, integrity, and corporate responsibility. Li-Cycle:

  • Operates according to the Integrated Business Policy that encompasses our environmental, health and safety and quality practices
  • Complies with all applicable environmental, health and safety laws, regulations and standards in the jurisdictions in which we operation
  • Creates an ethical, secondary source of critical battery materials through resource recovery
  • Provides reliable and transparent data that guides our mitigations strategies on risks and opportunities through the use of lifecycle and sustainable benefits assessments
  • Promotes our commitment to sustainability and ethical practices through effective leadership, communication, management systems, training and accountability
